What is Needed to Help You Get Motivated
Ever wondered what gets you up in the morning? It is the hope that comes with a new day. If all hope is lost, you wouldn’t bother to get up and that is one of the things about how to get motivated. Self-motivation is simply the inner drive in each of us that makes us want to succeed. Were you born with it? No, but this develops as you grow older thanks to the help of your family, friends and school.
A good example from your parents could be you asking them to buy something you see in the store and they tell you to get motivated and work for it if you want to get it. One option will be to offer you an incentive like getting good grades and in return, this is given to you as a reward. If you are grown up already, they will probably tell you to find a job like delivering newspaper or mowing the neighbor’s lawn in exchange for cash. Once you are able to collect enough money, only then will you be able to buy it.
Such examples teach you one thing and that is to set a motivational goal. Since a goal is like an “X” in a treasure map, you have to plan a path so you are able to get there. If you are able to follow the right path, you will be able to get motivated and get what you want regardless of the objective. Not everything we want in life is going to be given to us on a silver platter and chances are, this is when you are thinking of giving up. Should you quit? Some people will, but you have to fight that urge and continue on. By being motivated to do that, you will soon develop the habit of never giving up and always finishing what you started.
Get Motivated with Dreams and Goals
We mentioned earlier that our friends and people in school contribute to self-motivation. While not everyone will share your dreams and goals, this is why you have to socialize with those that have similar interest. Studies have shown that getting motivated is contagious and if all of you have a winning attitude, there is nothing that you guys cannot do.
In any goal, there will be a few setbacks that will come your way. This will delay your goals but by learning from it, you will be able to overcome it. This in itself is what sets us apart from animals because we are able to learn from others and at the same time discover a few things on our own.
One thing you might learn is that there are some goals that are too far to reach so new ones need to be made. Does this mean we gave up? Some people will think so, but there is something good that comes out of it, which is our ability to channel our focus elsewhere perhaps to a certain interest or talent that we possess which in the end will make us get motivated and become more successful.
Self-motivation is an ongoing process and the only way we become better and stronger is to make a few mistakes along the way and also face a few setbacks. In essence, you have to take a certain amount of risk because it is the good times and the bad that makes us a better person.
Can Getting Motivated Help You get Over Problems?
Experts say that getting motivated is one of the most important factors for somebody to live a good life. It is just so unfortunate that not many people have innate means of motivating themselves that is why many of them just give up and live a remorseful life filled with negative things.
Many people still don’t realize that problems would be a constant factor in their lives. And because of this inability to understand and accept certain situations, people just give up the chance to a better life. Experts say that problems are the number one factor that kills the people's desire to be motivated. This is because due to so many problems, many people think that it is useless for them to put on a fight since they will only taste defeat later on.
Get Motivated to Deal with Problems
However, although experiencing problems indeed discourages people to want more things in life, this should not be enough reason just to let the chance of living a better life go. If you think that many problems hinder your process to getting motivated, here are some of the things that might help you realize how self-motivation itself can help you get over problems:
1. Let the past go. Experts say that the first step to deal with problem through motivation is by learning to let go of the past. This is because if you already accepted that there are things that are beyond your control, you will be able to forgive yourself and start anew. If you just keep thinking of the past, this will serve as a reminder of your failure. And if you keep thinking about your defeat, you will undergo a never ending cycle of blaming yourself for the things that you did not really opt to do.
If you want to attempt to get motivated, try to finish each day and forgive yourself for the things that you were not able to finish or accomplish today. If you were able to do that, you will look forward to a new day and new opportunities that will come along your way.
2. Try to run your own race by getting motivated at your own pace. Although it is sometimes healthy to be competitive in terms of achieving goals, there would always be times when you will get tired of running after so many things because you don’t want other people to finish before you. More often than not, people who compare themselves with others are the ones who are left behind without anything because they spend too much time thinking how can they outlast the other person, thus, neglecting his or her own priorities.
To maximize self-motivation to its fullest, it is best if you run a race at your own pace so you won't get tired. This will also be beneficial for you because you can rest whenever you want to since nobody is breathing down your neck to finish something.
3. Always take one step ahead. To be able to continuously motivate one's self despite so many problems, it is always best to take one step ahead of things. Meaning, you need to plan ahead and do things ahead of time so you will be given more opportunity or chance in case the first plan did not work. Taking and thinking one step ahead are the best foundations of getting motivation because if you were able to develop these, it would be easier for you to take tougher and bigger problems or challenges along the way.
Why Making Changes Can Get You Motivated
People tend to be creatures of habit. We do not look forward to changes and usually changes in our lives or daily routines can upset our balance. Children are especially upset with changes in daily routine. Ever seen a two-year-old without an afternoon nap? Adults are no different. Changes are however, a part of life. Changes can be good, though. Changes are often the reason why many people get motivated.
Many people are motivated by changes in their lives. The changes they experience might be small, such as adding a new pet to the family or getting a new hair cut or style. Or, there could be more life-changing experiences such as moving, getting married or having a baby. Some changes can cause serious stress in emotions and people can become resistance to change. There are ways to channel the emotions surrounding a change and become more motivated.
Motivation that Causes Change
Change can get you motivated to something or change something in your life. By definition, motivation means the mental force that causes change or the reason why a person works towards a goal or accomplishment. It is usually agreed that unsatisfied needs or situations cause people to become motivated. A change that can cause a person to become more motivated to do something that is beneficial is desirable. For example, if you just had your first baby, you may find that this life-changing event is the perfect time to get motivated yourself to change careers or to save money so that you can stay at home.
Maybe you get laid off from your job and suddenly find yourself unemployed. This change in your life, while it can be quite stressful and upsetting, can motivate you to change careers or go back to school to further your education. Many people will tell you that they are motivated to do something because there has been some kind of change in their life.
After you have realized that you have the perfect opportunity to change or to get yourself motivated to change, you have seized the moment. If you do not take the time and motivate yourself right away, you might find that your motivation will slip away. It is very important use the opportunity from this change in your life and makes a difference in your life and those around you. Even if you are dealing with small changes in your life, these can still be used to motivate you to make even more changes that will benefit.
Another reason why change can motivate people is because change often causes stress. Stress is very real and some people have a difficult time dealing with the stress. When a person experiences a change in their life, they can be very resistant. Usually, change is coupled with a fear of the unknown or the unexpected.
Channel Motivational Energy
Every person is different when they deal with change. Those who are easily motivated by change are able to perceive change and channel that energy in a positive way. Those who have difficulty with change are usually not well equipped to deal well with that change in their lives. As a result, they may not get motivated at all.
Some people are better equipped to deal with change when they know what to expect out of a situation. For these people, their motivation may come out of learning what changes they will face. One example might be moving. If a person lives in one city all of their life, they may not want to move and resist moving to another area. They might get motivated to research the area where they are moving to so that they can deal better with the change of a new place or city. Because motivation comes in many different forms, change is one way many people will be motivated.
Another type of change that can cause a person to be motivated is when someone is asked to change his or her opinion or point of view about a certain subject. Most people are extremely resistant to changing their thought patterns and onions. When they are asked to do so, some people may immediately shut down. Others that are better equipped to deal with changes may get motivated to look at another point of view more objectively
