Self-Hypnosis and Success
Do you like being you, but you would just like to be a little better at it? Do you wish that you would have the motivation and drive to achieve goals beyond your wildest dreams? Do you wish you could know yourself better and feel confident and secure in yourself? How great would it be to be an achiever, a leader and a pioneer? Just imagine being the person that you want to be, living the life that you want to live – the life of your dreams. If you could achieve all this right now – would you? Of course you would – I mean who wouldn’t?
One of the main reasons that I love being a hypnotherapist is that I get loads of spare time to be able to work on the things that I want to achieve in life. And as a person that practices what he preaches I spend a lot of time utilizing hypnosis and self-hypnosis for my own benefit and achievement. Some of my biggest and best ideas both in my business and personal life have come from my time working on myself with hypnosis. In fact, I would say that my success overall is very much dependant on all of the time that I have taken to work on myself as well as my clients. Self hypnosis is really an amazing tool to create self-made success.
Hypnosis and self-hypnosis can be used to simply reprogram the part of your brain that we refer to as your sub-conscious mind. This ultimately allows you to achieve your desired results from life and attain the lifestyle of your dreams as you continue along your journey of self-discovery and personal development. By changing and challenging your beliefs you will really begin to clear out old and unwanted barriers that will have held you back until now.
You can learn the art of self-hypnosis in many ways. You can get a book or seek the help of your local hypnotherapist who should be more than happy to teach you and help you to develop this new skill into one that you can use effectively. Some Hypnotherapists also put on courses and seminars to teach people self-hypnosis, however I always think that it’s best to do your research before going on these and you can do that by getting a good book and reading it.
The Secret of Successful Self Hypnosis
It’s important to first acknowledge that hypnosis is a natural state of being, which we all achieve daily without being consciously aware of it or giving it a name. The bridge between being awake and being asleep is what we call hypnosis.
That answers the question of who can achieve hypnosis. We all can, and we all do. But it’s the degree to which we can benefit from this altered state which varies tremendously, as well as the concept of being able to achieve that state at will.
Some people are naturally more suggestible than others. This contributes to the varying depths of susceptibility that we see regularly. The degree to which we will accept hypnosis, and the depth of the altered state that we can reach, will depend on our natural susceptibility to suggestion. Some people are more likely to take suggestion on board, consciously or not, and apply it in their inner world.
I agree with a point often made by other experts in the field, who state that our level of susceptibility, and our ability to achieve a deep state of hypnosis, are not that relevant in terms of being able to benefit. In other words, there is no level of failure in hypnosis. We can all benefit to a degree that is entirely dependent on each of our own individual factors. These factors of course include things we cannot control, like our individual characteristics. But aside from these natural differences, the more important variables really come down to each person’s motivation and their level of commitment.
Individuals who are regularly able to make the time to listen to their self-hypnosis recordings or go to their hypnotherapist will experience a greater degree of benefit than anyone who only half-heartedly commits to it. If you don’t motivate yourself to the use of self-hypnosis, then there is no benefit. Hypnosis is not magic; it requires a level of commitment, however small, to make positive changes in your life. This is true of any type of therapy.
Your attitude plays a large influence on the effects of hypnotherapy. If you seek to disprove the theory of hypnosis, you will certainly not enter into hypnosis with the open mind that is required to achieve higher susceptibility. Or if you are overly focused on analyzing the results rather than enjoying them, you will put up unnecessary barriers which will certainly impede the process and influence the degree of benefit that you can possibly achieve.
The best advice I give to anyone who is interested in using self-hypnosis to achieve changes in their life, is to just relax and go with the flow. Let it all happen naturally and don’t challenge it. The more conscious effort you make the less response you’ll get from your unconscious mind. It really is as simple as that.
As a hypnotherapist who uses hypnosis, and witnesses its effects daily, I can say with confidence that I see no reason why anyone can’t benefit from self-hypnosis to some degree. And it’s that degree that is ultimately entirely up to each of us. If you make the effort to use hypnosis and have an open mind, then the possibilities are endless. Your attitude is the key to successful self-hypnosis.
Make Your Self Hypnosis Better
For those of you that have already learnt the art of Self Hypnosis, I want to put together my top tips for getting the best out of the process. I personally have practiced it for many years and must say that without Self Hypnosis, my business and my personal life would not be as successful as it is today! Self-Hypnosis really helps to give you direction and also to keep you motivated and driven at those all-important times. With Hypnosis on your side you can truly achieve the impossible. Now I will show you how you can ‘super hone’ your skill to reap the greatest benefits!
You may want to use all of the following tips or you may wish to mix and match to get the best result for you.
1. Self-Hypnosis is best practiced in the morning! This is because it sets you up for the day. Make a list the night before of everything that you need to achieve the next day. Circle the things that don’t motivate you and then use your Self Hypnosis time to boost your motivation to achieve these goals. Don’t practice just after you have woken up though as you may fall back to sleep – take a shower or have some breakfast first.
2. Use Self Hypnosis daily and you will soon see the results! By setting aside fifteen to thirty minutes a day to practice your Self Hypnosis, you will be on top of your goals before you know it. Choose a slightly different induction though as to vary it a bit for your mind. Also use it to get benefits in different areas or your life and not just the same one. I work on as many as ten goals at any one time as to give my subconscious mind a bit of variety.
3. Use every facet of your imagination and do some suggestibility testing while in Hypnosis! I like to imagine myself on a hot and sunny beach and imagining all of the things that go with it. I imagine the sun warming my back, the feeling of the sand between my toes and the sound of people playing volley ball. After doing this I can actually feel the warmth, which allows me to understand that my mind in responding to the suggestions that I am giving it. I sometimes like to imagine being in a snowy field as well and experiencing the cold.
So there you have it… three great tips that will boost your Self Hypnosis success. I hope that you enjoy them and put them to good use!
Laws of The Mind Essential for Effective Self Hypnosis
Learn how four laws of the mind dictate how you react to everything around you.
To make your self-hypnosis effective you need to be aware of certain principles. If you are not aware of the following laws of the mind, then you may end up creating the opposite of what you desire with your self-hypnosis practice.
1. Every thought affects the body as well.
In other words, although the mind and the body are understood to be separate in practice it doesn’t work that way. Mental stress can create knots in your back or even give you ulcers. Therefore, be aware of your thinking. If you are negative all the time to yourself or about your surroundings it will affect your life in a bad way.
2. What you expect tends to be realized.
If you wake up telling yourself that you will have a bad day you probably will. In other words, your expectations drive your results. Negative expectations are the same as negative self-hypnosis.
3. Imagination is stronger than knowledge.
You ‘know’ that ghosts and monsters do not exist. Yet hearing ghost stories at night will create fear. Especially if sitting around a campfire in a forest. There is no contest. Imagination will always win. Another point for the importance of positive thoughts and visualizations in your practice of self hypnosis.
4. What you resist the most stays with you.
Have you ever had to stop doing something and found that its more difficult than you realized? Maybe you have had occasion to go on a diet and suddenly foods that you couldn’t have cared less about start looking very appetizing? Maybe there was/is someone who irritates you and you know there is no reason to. So you try to keep the irritation away but it gets to you even more?
I could go on and on with examples. Basically, when you resist something it tends to stick. This happens because when you resist you have to think of the very thing you are trying to resist, so it’s continuously on your mind. It’s as if someone told you that they would give you a $1000 if you don’t think of a pink elephant all day. I’m sure you don’t spend your time thinking of something as random as a pink elephant. However, trying to resist that image of a pink elephant with a $1000 on the line would be impossible.
In other words, what you resist tends to stay with you. Which means that in focusing on an affirmation for self-hypnosis you have to phrase the affirmation in the positive. I.e. affirm what you want to achieve and NOT on what you don’t want. Follow these four laws of the mind and your day to day thoughts will be more guided in a positive direction. Of course, your thoughts create your internal emotional states which is the same as self hypnosis. So you have to be aware of your thoughts to create the state of being that you desire.
